Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Arthrelis (PKM-01) is an investigational, dual-action, intra-articular injectable therapy developed by PK MED for the treatment of refractory gout flares. It is formulated as a sustained-release micro-implant using a polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) matrix polymer to deliver a combination of colchicine, a potent anti-inflammatory agent, and ropivacaine, a local anesthetic. By providing localized, controlled release of colchicine directly into the joint, Arthrelis aims to achieve powerful anti-inflammatory effects while minimizing the systemic exposure and toxicity associated with oral colchicine. Concurrently, the anesthetic action of ropivacaine provides rapid pain relief. The program has received FDA clearance to proceed directly into Phase 2 clinical trials.
