Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Arthritis Relief Plus is a topical analgesic and nutraceutical combination product primarily indicated for the temporary relief of pain associated with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other musculoskeletal conditions such as backache, strains, and sprains. The formulation functions as a counterirritant, utilizing active ingredients such as menthol and camphor. Menthol works by activating the TRPM8 (transient receptor potential melastatin 8) cold receptors in the skin, producing a cooling sensation that provides a gate control effect on pain transmission. Camphor acts as a mild local anesthetic and counterirritant by interacting with TRPV1 and TRPA1 channels. The product is unique for incorporating glucosamine sulfate and shark cartilage into a topical base, intended to provide supplementary support for joint health, although its primary immediate therapeutic effect is derived from its analgesic counterirritant components. It is widely marketed in Australia and New Zealand as a TGA-listed therapeutic good.
