Overview

**ARTISS** is a Baxter human plasma-derived, low-thrombin fibrin sealant for topical surgical tissue adhesion. It is a two-component product containing human fibrinogen and human thrombin; when mixed at the surgical site, thrombin converts fibrinogen to fibrin, creating an adherent fibrin matrix. Synthetic aprotinin delays fibrin degradation by inhibiting fibrinolysis. ARTISS is FDA-approved for adherence of autologous skin grafts to surgically prepared burn wound beds and for adherence of tissue flaps during facial rhytidectomy. It is not indicated as an adjunct to hemostasis. ([fda.gov](https://www.fda.gov/media/71723/download))
