Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ARTIVeda is an oral Ayurvedic formulation of Artemisia annua extract standardized for the active sesquiterpene lactone artemisinin, developed by Oncotelic (formerly Mateon Therapeutics) as an adjunctive therapy for mild to moderate COVID-19. It is supplied as 500 mg gelatin capsules of Artemisia powder and positioned in India as an Ayurvedic drug and nutraceutical that can be prescribed by physicians for viral fever and inflammation associated with SARS‑CoV‑2 infection.[2][5][12] Mechanistically, artemisinin exhibits direct antiviral activity against SARS‑CoV‑2 and other viruses and inhibits transforming growth factor‑beta (TGF‑β)–dependent pathways and NF‑κB–mediated inflammatory signaling, thereby both suppressing viral replication and dampening cytokine‑driven lung injury and fibrosis.[5][8] ARTIVeda has been evaluated in a randomized Phase 4 trial (ARTI‑19; CTRI/2020/09/028044) in India, where it showed signals of faster viral clearance and shorter hospital stay when added to standard of care in COVID‑19 patients.[2][5]
