Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Artocarpin is a natural prenylated flavonoid isolated from the heartwood of various plants in the *Artocarpus* genus, such as *Artocarpus gomezianus* and *Artocarpus heterophyllus*. It is being investigated for its potential therapeutic applications in osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and various cancers. In bone health, artocarpin acts as a dual inhibitor of cathepsin K (CatK) and osteoclast maturation, suppressing bone resorption and osteoclastogenesis. In oncology, it has demonstrated cytotoxic and apoptotic effects against colorectal, lung, and breast cancers, primarily by targeting Akt 1 and Akt 2 kinases and suppressing the FAK/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway. Additionally, artocarpin exhibits anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties.
