Overview

Arylacenamide refers to a class of compounds, specifically small arylamide foldamers, which are designed to mimic the amphiphilic nature of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs). These compounds exhibit potent bactericidal activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial strains. Their mechanism of action involves causing significant changes in the permeability of the bacterial outer membrane and more limited permeabilization of the inner membrane, ultimately leading to bacterial cell death. Additionally, they compromise protein secretion into the periplasm and outer membrane of bacteria.
