Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AS-101 is a small molecule organotellurium compound with immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. It acts as an inhibitor of interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) and interleukin 10 (IL-10) signaling by inhibiting phosphorylation of STAT3 and blocking IL-10 activity. AS-101 also inhibits caspase-1 and has been shown to modulate immune responses by inducing proliferation and IL-2 production in lymphocytes. It targets the Akt/Survivin pathway in cancer cells, leading to growth arrest and apoptosis. The drug has demonstrated potential for treating autoimmune diseases, certain malignancies such as acute myeloid leukemia and multiple myeloma, dermatological conditions like psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, genital warts caused by HPV (condylomata acuminata), thrombocytopenia, chemotherapy-induced damage, macular degeneration/dystrophy, solid tumors, and exhibits antibacterial activity against pathogens such as Klebsiella pneumoniae[1][2][3][4][5][6][8]. Developed primarily at Bar-Ilan University.
