Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AS Orthana (also known as Saliva Orthana) is a mucin-based artificial saliva substitute used for the palliative management of xerostomia (dry mouth). Formulated as an oral spray or solution, its primary active ingredient is porcine gastric mucin, which mimics the rheological and lubricating properties of natural human saliva. It is indicated for patients suffering from dry mouth caused by radiotherapy, Sjögren's syndrome, or medication side effects. By coating the oral mucosa, it provides long-lasting moisture and lubrication, improving speech, swallowing, and overall oral comfort.
