Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AS03 is an adjuvant system used in vaccines, particularly for pandemic influenza. It is a stabilized oil-in-water emulsion composed of DL-alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), squalene, and polysorbate 80. AS03 acts as an immunologic adjuvant by non-specifically stimulating cell-mediated immune responses to enhance the immunogenicity of vaccine antigens, allowing for dose-sparing strategies in vaccine formulation. It has been used in combination with H1N1 and H5N1 influenza antigens in pandemic vaccines such as Arepanrix and Pandemrix. The primary developer and manufacturer is GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals[1][2][3][4][5].
