Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The AS03-adjuvanted low-dose seasonal influenza vaccine is an investigational biologic developed by GSK designed to prevent seasonal influenza infection. It consists of a low-dose inactivated split-virion trivalent influenza vaccine (TIV) formulated with the proprietary AS03 adjuvant system. AS03 is an oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene, alpha-tocopherol (tocopherol), and polysorbate-80, which acts to enhance the magnitude and breadth of the immune response. This formulation is specifically designed for antigen dose-sparing, allowing for effective immunization with a significantly lower amount of viral hemagglutinin (HA) antigen compared to standard non-adjuvanted vaccines. It has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in healthy adults to assess its immunogenicity, safety, and reactogenicity against standard seasonal vaccines like Fluarix.
