Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AS03B is a specific formulation (Formulation B) of the AS03 Adjuvant System, a proprietary, squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion adjuvant developed by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). It is composed of squalene, polysorbate 80, and 5.93 mg of α-tocopherol (vitamin E). AS03B is designed to enhance the immune response to vaccine antigens by activating the innate immune system locally and increasing antigen uptake and presentation in draining lymph nodes. This mechanism leads to a stronger, more robust, and more durable adaptive immune response, often enabling antigen-sparing strategies in vaccine development. It has been utilized in various influenza vaccines, including those for pandemic H1N1 and H5N1, to improve their immunogenicity.
