Overview

AS210 is an autologous somatic cell therapy product consisting of cultured keratinocytes and fibroblasts derived from a patient's own skin biopsy. Developed by the Vrije Universiteit Medisch Centrum (VUmc), it is designed to promote the healing of chronic, hard-to-heal wounds such as (arterio-)venous leg and foot ulcers. The therapy works by providing a living tissue construct that releases essential growth factors and cytokines, stimulating the patient's own cells to migrate and proliferate, thereby accelerating re-epithelialization and dermal repair. In clinical trials, it has been compared against other cell-based products like Tiscover to evaluate its efficacy and safety in patients with chronic ulcers that have failed standard care.
