Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ASA inhalation powder is an inhaled formulation of acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) delivered via a drug-device combination system. Developed by Inova Health Care Services, it is designed to provide rapid antiplatelet effects in patients with suspected acute myocardial infarction (MI). By bypassing the gastrointestinal tract, the inhaled route aims to achieve faster therapeutic concentrations and platelet inhibition compared to traditional oral or chewable aspirin. The drug works by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) in platelets, thereby preventing the formation of thromboxane A2 and subsequent platelet aggregation. This rapid onset is intended to reduce the risk of vascular mortality during the acute phase of a myocardial infarction.
