Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ASAP DX is an oral, small-molecule combination cough syrup developed by Anglo-French Drugs & Industries. It is formulated as a triple-combination therapy containing chlorpheniramine maleate (an antihistamine), dextromethorphan hydrobromide (a centrally acting cough suppressant), and phenylephrine hydrochloride (a nasal decongestant). ASAP DX is indicated for the symptomatic relief of dry allergic cough, common cold, hay fever, and associated upper respiratory allergy symptoms. Chlorpheniramine maleate acts as an antagonist at histamine H1 receptors to alleviate allergic symptoms such as sneezing and runny nose. Dextromethorphan hydrobromide acts as a sigma-1 receptor agonist and NMDA receptor antagonist in the brain's cough center to suppress the cough reflex. Phenylephrine hydrochloride acts as an agonist at alpha-1 adrenergic receptors to cause vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa, thereby relieving nasal congestion.
