It is primarily valued for its essential oils and ethanol extracts, which contain bioactive compounds such as methyleugenol, asarinin, and higenamine. The herb is traditionally used to treat respiratory conditions like asthma, allergic rhinitis, and sinusitis, as well as for pain relief (analgesia) and dental health. Pharmacological studies indicate it possesses anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, and analgesic properties, mediated through mechanisms such as the inhibition of Th2-mediated immune responses, modulation of TRPV4 channels, and regulation of tight junction proteins. While effective, its use requires caution due to the presence of aristolochic acids, which are known nephrotoxins and carcinogens, although *A. sieboldii* typically contains lower levels compared to other *Asarum* species.
