Ascaris suum extract is a biological preparation derived from the parasitic nematode *Ascaris suum* (the large roundworm of pigs). It is primarily utilized in clinical and preclinical research as a potent allergen challenge agent to model and study Type I hypersensitivity reactions. In animal models, including cynomolgus monkeys, dogs, and pigs, the extract is administered via intradermal injection or aerosolized inhalation to induce early-phase (EPR) and late-phase (LPR) allergic responses. These responses are characterized by mast cell degranulation, wheal-and-flare formation, and subsequent inflammatory cell infiltration (eosinophils and mononuclear cells). The extract is a standard tool for evaluating the efficacy of novel anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic therapeutics for conditions such as asthma and atopic dermatitis.
