Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ascendra is an intranasal powder formulation of teriparatide, a recombinant human parathyroid hormone (PTH 1-34), developed by the Japanese biotechnology company Anwerina. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis. As an anabolic bone agent, teriparatide works by binding to and activating the parathyroid hormone receptor 1 (PTH1R), which stimulates osteoblast activity and increases bone formation. Ascendra is designed to provide a non-invasive alternative to the standard subcutaneous injections of teriparatide, potentially enhancing patient adherence and convenience through its nasal delivery system.
