Aschantin (frequently misspelled as aschatin in some literature) is a natural tetrahydrofurofuran-type lignan isolated from *Magnoliae Flos* (the dried flower buds of *Magnolia* species). It exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and anticancer properties. Aschantin acts as a mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) kinase inhibitor, directly targeting the active pocket of the mTOR kinase domain. In the context of breast cancer-mediated bone destruction, aschantin suppresses the expression and secretion of parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) in metastatic breast cancer cells and reduces the bone-resorbing activity of osteoclasts by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and cathepsin K.
