Overview
Ascorbic acid + esketamine is a combination therapy being investigated for the treatment of perinatal psychiatric disorders, specifically postpartum depression (PPD). Esketamine, the S-enantiomer of ketamine, acts as a non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, providing rapid-acting antidepressant effects by modulating glutamatergic signaling and increasing synaptic plasticity. Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is an essential antioxidant that may enhance the antidepressant efficacy of esketamine and mitigate oxidative stress, which is often elevated in depressive states.
