Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A topical antioxidant combination consisting of 15% L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C), 1% alpha-tocopherol (vitamin E), and 0.5% ferulic acid designed to provide enhanced photoprotection against ultraviolet (UV) radiation-induced skin damage. The formulation stabilizes vitamin C, increases antioxidant efficacy, and protects human skin from oxidative stress caused by UV exposure. It reduces erythema, sunburn cell formation, thymine dimer mutations associated with DNA damage and skin cancer risk, and modulates UV-induced cytokine expression in the skin. This combination acts synergistically to neutralize free radicals more effectively than any single component alone and supplements sunscreen protection by a different mechanism of action focused on antioxidant defense rather than UV blocking[1][4][7]. It is widely used in dermatology for photoprotection, anti-aging benefits including collagen synthesis stimulation, brightening of complexion, reduction of hyperpigmentation signs, and minimizing fine lines[6][8].
