Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ASGPR-specific CAR-Tregs is a preclinical-stage, liver-specific chimeric antigen receptor regulatory T-cell (CAR-Treg) therapy being developed by Quell Therapeutics in collaboration with King's College London. The therapy consists of regulatory T cells (Tregs) engineered to express a second-generation CAR incorporating a single-chain antibody fragment (scFv) that targets asialoglycoprotein receptor 1 (ASGPR1), a hepatocyte-specific antigen. By targeting ASGPR1, these CAR-Tregs are designed to selectively migrate, home, and persist in the liver, where they can be activated to exert localized immunosuppressive and immunomodulatory functions. This approach is being investigated to induce localized immune tolerance and improve outcomes in liver transplantation and inflammatory or autoimmune liver diseases, while minimizing systemic immunosuppression-related side effects.
