Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ASI-02 is a standardized agitated saline contrast agent developed by Agitated Solutions for use in transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) to detect right-to-left shunts, such as patent foramen ovale (PFO). Unlike traditional manual agitation, which is highly variable and operator-dependent, ASI-02 is produced using a proprietary automated agitation device (the Orbis system) to create a consistent concentration and size distribution of microbubbles. These microbubbles serve as an ultrasound contrast medium; when injected intravenously, they are normally filtered by the lungs, but their appearance in the left heart chambers indicates the presence of a shunt. The agent is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials to demonstrate superior sensitivity and reproducibility compared to standard-of-care manual agitated saline.
