Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Asmanex is an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) containing the active ingredient mometasone furoate, primarily indicated for the maintenance treatment of asthma as prophylactic therapy in patients aged 4 years and older. It functions as a potent glucocorticoid receptor agonist, exerting local anti-inflammatory effects in the lungs to reduce airway hyperresponsiveness and prevent asthma exacerbations. Originally developed by Schering-Plough (later Merck & Co.), the product is currently part of the Organon portfolio following its spin-off in 2021. It is available in two main formulations: the Asmanex Twisthaler, a dry powder inhaler (DPI), and Asmanex HFA, a metered-dose inhaler (MDI).
