Overview

ASO-control is an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) designed to target the mRNA of green fluorescent protein (GFP). In the context of biomedical research, it serves as a negative control to distinguish the sequence-specific effects of a therapeutic ASO from the non-specific biological responses elicited by the oligonucleotide's chemical structure or the delivery method. In studies of atherosclerosis, ASO-control is used as a comparator to evaluate the efficacy of experimental ASOs, such as those targeting small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs), in reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and atherosclerotic plaque formation in mouse models.
