Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Asodryl is a multi-ingredient small molecule formulation developed and marketed by A S Pharmaceutical (India) Private Limited. It is a generic version of the classic Benadryl cough syrup formulation, containing diphenhydramine hydrochloride, ammonium chloride, sodium citrate, and menthol. Diphenhydramine acts as a first-generation H1-receptor antagonist to relieve allergic symptoms and suppress cough. Ammonium chloride and sodium citrate function as expectorants that help thin and loosen mucus in the respiratory tract, facilitating its removal. Menthol is included for its local soothing and cooling effects on the throat, mediated through TRPM8 activation. Asodryl is primarily indicated for the symptomatic relief of cough and congestion associated with the common cold, bronchitis, or upper respiratory allergies.
