Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ASP-001 is an orally disintegrating tablet (ODT) formulation of flunarizine, a non-selective calcium channel blocker and diphenylmethylamine derivative. Developed by Aspartes Pharmaceuticals, it is designed for buccal administration to potentially improve the pharmacokinetic profile and ease of use compared to traditional oral tablets, particularly in patients experiencing nausea or difficulty swallowing during migraine attacks. Flunarizine acts by inhibiting the influx of extracellular calcium across cell membranes and also exhibits sodium channel blocking, antihistaminic, and anti-dopaminergic activities. ASP-001 is primarily intended for the prophylaxis of migraine and the treatment of vertigo and vestibular disorders.
