Overview
ASP0113 (TransVax) is an investigational bivalent DNA vaccine designed to prevent cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection and its associated complications in immunocompromised patients, particularly those undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) or solid organ transplantation. Developed by Astellas Pharma in partnership with Vical, the vaccine consists of two plasmids encoding the CMV antigens phosphoprotein 65 (pp65) and glycoprotein B (gB). These antigens are intended to stimulate both cellular (T-cell) and humoral (antibody) immune responses. The vaccine utilizes a proprietary poloxamer-based delivery system (CRL1005) to enhance DNA uptake and expression. In 2018, Astellas announced that ASP0113 failed to meet its primary and secondary endpoints in the Phase 3 HELIOS trial for HSCT recipients, leading to the termination of the program.
