Overview

ASP0598 is a recombinant human heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor (HB-EGF) developed as a topical otic solution for the treatment of chronic tympanic membrane perforation. It acts as a modulator of the HB-EGF pathway and is classified as a recombinant protein and intercellular signaling peptide. The drug was initially developed by Astellas Pharma and later by Auration Biotech. Its mechanism involves modulation of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway via HB-EGF activity. Clinical development reached up to Phase 1/2 trials for ear disorders, specifically chronic tympanic membrane perforation, but has since been discontinued[1][2][6].
