Overview

ASP0777 is a synthetic small molecule drug developed by Astellas Pharma as a non-competitive antagonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. It was investigated for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, with the aim to improve symptoms by modulating glutamatergic neurotransmission in the brain. The drug acts as an NMDA receptor antagonist and was administered orally in clinical trials. Preclinical studies demonstrated good brain penetration and dose-dependent distribution in primate models[4]. Clinical development reached Phase 1, where safety and tolerability were evaluated in patients with Alzheimer's disease already receiving donepezil[5][2][3].
