Overview

ASP7962 is a small molecule inhibitor developed for the oral treatment of pain due to osteoarthritis of the knee. It acts as an antagonist of tropomyosin-related kinase A (TrkA), which is the high-affinity receptor for nerve growth factor (NGF). By inhibiting TrkA, ASP7962 disrupts NGF signaling, which plays a key role in pain transmission and neuronal survival. The drug was investigated primarily for its analgesic effects in osteoarthritis but development was discontinued after phase II clinical trials. ASP7962 was originally developed by Astellas Pharma Europe[1][2][4][5].
