Overview

ASP8062 is a novel, orally active small molecule that acts as a positive allosteric modulator of the Gamma-aminobutyric acid type B receptor (GABAB). It is being developed primarily for the treatment of alcohol use disorder (AUD) and has also been investigated for opioid use disorder (OUD). The drug enhances GABAergic neurotransmission by modulating the GABA B receptor, which may help reduce addictive behaviors. ASP8062 was developed by Astellas Pharma and has reached phase 2 clinical trials for alcoholism. Development in opioid-related disorders and fibromyalgia has been discontinued[1][3][5][6].
