ASP8497 is a potent, long-acting, selective, and competitive inhibitor of **dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV)**. By inhibiting DPP-IV, ASP8497 prevents the inactivation of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a hormone that promotes insulin secretion. This mechanism results in elevated active GLP-1 levels and increased insulin release in a glucose-dependent manner, leading to improved glucose tolerance and antihyperglycemic effects. ASP8497 has demonstrated efficacy in animal models of type 2 diabetes, improving blood glucose control, glucose tolerance, and lipid profiles without causing hypoglycemia in the absence of hyperglycemia. It was developed as an antidiabetic agent[1][2][4][5][9].
