Overview
ASP9831 is a small molecule phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitor developed by Astellas Pharma for the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). It demonstrated potent anti-inflammatory and antifibrotic effects in preclinical studies. Clinical trials included phase 1 and phase 2 studies, where it was evaluated for its ability to reduce biochemical markers of NASH such as alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). Despite promising preclinical data, clinical trials did not show significant efficacy compared to placebo, leading to discontinuation of its development for NASH[1][2][4][5].
