asparaginase (Admac Pharma)

Admagin is a branded generic formulation of asparaginase (L-asparaginase) developed by Admac Pharma. Asparaginase is an antineoplastic enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of the non-essential amino acid L-asparagine into L-aspartic acid and ammonia. While normal cells can synthesize L-asparagine de novo using asparagine synthetase, certain malignant cells, particularly acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) lymphoblasts, lack sufficient levels of this enzyme and rely on exogenous L-asparagine from the bloodstream. By depleting circulating L-asparagine, Admagin selectively starves these leukemia cells, leading to the inhibition of protein synthesis, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. Admagin is primarily indicated for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia and lymphoblastic lymphoma, often as part of multi-agent chemotherapy regimens.
