Asparkam is a metabolic agent and electrolyte supplement containing a combination of potassium aspartate and magnesium aspartate. It is widely used in Russia and Eastern Europe to treat electrolyte imbalances and support cardiovascular function. The drug works by delivering potassium and magnesium ions into the intracellular space, a process facilitated by aspartate, which acts as a transmembrane carrier. These ions are critical for maintaining the polarization of neuronal and cardiac cell membranes, regulating muscle contraction, and supporting enzymatic reactions. Asparkam is primarily indicated for the management of heart failure, recovery after myocardial infarction, and the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, particularly those caused by electrolyte deficiencies or digitalis toxicity.
