Overview

Aspartylchlorin p6 dimethylester (7b) is a chlorin p6-based photosensitizer developed for photodynamic therapy (PDT). It is a water-soluble amino acid conjugate designed to overcome limitations of traditional photosensitizers, such as poor solubility and high dark toxicity. In preclinical studies, 7b demonstrated significant phototoxicity against melanoma cells while maintaining low dark toxicity, outperforming verteporfin in both in vitro and in vivo B16-F10 tumor models. The compound localizes in multiple subcellular organelles and induces cell death through both necrosis and apoptosis upon light activation within the phototherapeutic window. Its mechanism involves the generation of singlet oxygen, leading to effective tumor destruction.
