Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aspergillus fumigatus (Af) extract is a research tool consisting of a mixture of culture filtrate and mycelial extracts from the Aspergillus fumigatus fungus. It serves as a naturally occurring airway allergen used in animal models to induce allergic airway inflammation, eosinophilia, and bronchial hyperreactivity (BHR), thereby creating a model for asthma pathophysiology. [1, 2, 4] Intranasal administration in mice is a common method to study the mechanisms of asthma, and research using this extract has shown that the resulting allergic inflammation can be mediated by both IgE-dependent and IgE-independent pathways.
