Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aspirin + caffeine is an over-the-counter combination analgesic medication. Aspirin, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), works by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, which suppresses the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. Caffeine acts as a central nervous system stimulant and an adenosine receptor antagonist; in this combination, it serves as an analgesic adjuvant, enhancing the pain-relieving efficacy of aspirin and potentially accelerating its onset of action. This combination is widely used for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains, including tension headaches, migraines, muscle aches, and minor arthritis pain.
