Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This fixed-dose combination (FDC) supplement was developed by UMC Utrecht for the prevention of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), specifically pregnancy-induced hypertension and preeclampsia. The formulation, evaluated in the Phase 3 '4P' (Prospects for the Prevention of Pregnancy-induced Hypertension and Preeclampsia) clinical trial, consists of a single capsule containing 80 mg of low-dose aspirin, 1.2 g of calcium, 600 IU of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol), 5 mg of folic acid, and 1000 µg of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin). Aspirin acts as an antiplatelet agent to improve placental perfusion and prevent vascular complications, while the multinutrient components address common deficiencies linked to endothelial dysfunction and increased risk of preeclampsia. The combination is intended for use in pregnant women identified as being at high risk for developing hypertensive disorders.
