aspirin + citalopram

Aspirin + citalopram is a non-standard, unbranded combination of two pharmaceutical drugs: aspirin, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with antiplatelet and analgesic properties, and citalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRIs) used primarily for the treatment of depression. Aspirin works by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis to decrease inflammation and inhibit platelet aggregation. Citalopram increases serotonergic activity in the central nervous system by selectively inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin at presynaptic neurons. This combination is not marketed as a fixed-dose product but may be co-prescribed in clinical practice. However, concurrent use increases the risk of bleeding due to additive effects on platelet function and gastrointestinal mucosa integrity; there are also reports suggesting possible exacerbation of psychiatric side effects when combined[1][5][6]. The combination should only be used under careful medical supervision.
