Aspirin + dihydroxyaluminum aminoacetate + heavy magnesium carbonate is a buffered formulation of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) designed to provide antiplatelet and anti-inflammatory effects while minimizing gastrointestinal side effects. Aspirin acts by irreversibly acetylating the active site of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thereby inhibiting the production of thromboxane A2 in platelets and prostaglandins in various tissues. The inclusion of dihydroxyaluminum aminoacetate (aluminum glycinate) and heavy magnesium carbonate serves as a buffering system that neutralizes gastric acid and protects the stomach lining from the direct and indirect irritant effects of aspirin. This combination is widely used for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and angina pectoris, the management of ischemic cerebrovascular disorders, and the treatment of Kawasaki disease. It is particularly prevalent in Asian markets, where it is often marketed under the brand name Bufferin.
