Overview

Aspirin + exemestane is a combination therapy being investigated by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences for the adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal breast cancer. Aspirin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that acts as an irreversible inhibitor of cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which may reduce inflammation-driven tumor progression and platelet-mediated metastasis. Exemestane is a third-generation, irreversible steroidal aromatase inactivator that lowers circulating estrogen levels by inhibiting the conversion of androgens to estrogens, a key driver in hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. This combination aims to enhance the efficacy of standard endocrine therapy in preventing breast cancer recurrence.
