Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Aspirlose is a novel ester conjugate synthesized by the chemical coupling of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) and the disaccharide trehalose. Developed by researchers at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and Rambam Health Care Campus, Aspirlose is designed to treat acute pancreatitis (AP). The compound leverages the anti-inflammatory and heparanase-inhibiting properties of aspirin combined with the pancreato-protective and autophagy-regulating effects of trehalose. In preclinical models of cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis, Aspirlose demonstrated superior efficacy in reducing pancreatic enzymes (amylase and lipase), tissue edema, and inflammatory biomarkers compared to either aspirin or trehalose administered alone.
