Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AST-Fp-1 is a small molecule parasiticide being developed by ASTRA Therapeutics for the treatment of protozoan infections in farm animals, such as coccidiosis in poultry and swine. The drug is designed using ASTRA's proprietary ParaX® platform, which leverages atomic-resolution comparative structural data to engineer species-specific tubulin inhibitors (known as Parabulins®). By selectively binding to parasite-specific tubulin isoforms, AST-Fp-1 disrupts microtubule formation and cell division in the eukaryotic pathogens while sparing the host animal's cells, thereby minimizing toxicity and overcoming drug resistance. AST-Fp-1 is currently in the Proof of Concept (PoC) stage of development.
