Overview
This traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal granule regimen is a combination of eight botanical and animal-derived ingredients: Astragalus (Huangqi), Angelica (Danggui), Red Peony (Chishao), Earthworm (Dilong), Chuanxiong, Safflower (Honghua), Peach Kernel (Taoren), and Butterflybush Flower (Mimenghua). Developed by the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, the formulation is designed to be used perioperatively in patients undergoing penetrating canaloplasty (PCP) for primary or juvenile open-angle glaucoma. The regimen aims to mitigate transient postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation, a common complication of glaucoma surgery. Its mechanism is thought to involve the synergistic effects of its components in promoting blood circulation, resolving stasis, and providing neuroprotection to the optic nerve, thereby improving surgical outcomes and preserving visual function.
