Overview

Astragalus membranaceus polysaccharide (AMP) is a major bioactive constituent derived from the roots of *Astragalus membranaceus*, a staple herb in traditional Chinese medicine. AMP is being investigated for its immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and antitumor properties. Specifically, research presented at AACR 2026 highlights its ability to reverse resistance to the third-generation EGFR inhibitor osimertinib in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The mechanism involves the reversal of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and the suppression of critical signaling pathways, including PI3K/AKT/mTOR, ErbB, and Rap 1. Preclinical data from patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models demonstrate that AMP can significantly potentiate the antitumor effects of osimertinib without increasing toxicity, suggesting its potential as an adjunctive therapy for drug-refractory lung cancer.
