Overview

AstroStem-V is an investigational cell therapy product composed of allogenic adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AdMSC). It is being developed for the treatment of pneumonia caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The proposed mechanism of action involves immunomodulation and anti-inflammatory effects, as mesenchymal stem cells secrete factors such as hepatocyte growth factor, TGF-β1, TNF-α, and TSG-6. These secreted factors help regulate both innate and adaptive immune responses by suppressing B-type and T-type lymphocytes, dendritic cells, promoting regulatory T lymphocytes via IL-10, and controlling excessive inflammation. This immunoregulatory activity is thought to protect lung tissue in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) associated with severe COVID-19 pneumonia[1][2][3][9].
