Overview

Asunaprevir is an orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) nonstructural protein 3 (NS3) protease. By binding to the active center of NS3, asunaprevir blocks NS3 protease-mediated polyprotein maturation, which is essential for viral replication. It is used in combination with other agents such as daclatasvir for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection, particularly genotypes 1 and 4. Asunaprevir was developed by Bristol Myers Squibb and was approved in some regions but later withdrawn from certain markets[1][2][5][6].
