Overview

Asundexian is an investigational, once-daily, oral small molecule inhibitor of activated coagulation factor XI (FXIa) developed by Bayer. It is designed to prevent pathological thrombus formation while preserving hemostasis, potentially offering a lower risk of bleeding compared to traditional anticoagulants like Factor Xa inhibitors or Vitamin K antagonists. By specifically targeting Factor XIa, asundexian inhibits the amplification phase of the coagulation cascade. The drug has been evaluated in the comprehensive PACIFIC and OCEANIC clinical trial programs for several cardiovascular indications, including the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation, secondary prevention of non-cardioembolic ischemic stroke or high-risk transient ischemic attack (TIA), and treatment following acute myocardial infarction.
