ASYNYDA-FITC is an investigational diagnostic peptide-dye conjugate developed by the University of Michigan for the real-time detection of esophageal neoplasia. It consists of a seven-amino acid peptide with the sequence ASYNYDA, linked to a fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) fluorophore via a GGGSK linker. The peptide was identified through phage display technology to bind specifically to cell surface markers that are overexpressed during the progression from Barrett's esophagus to esophageal adenocarcinoma. During an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, the agent is applied topically to the esophageal mucosa via a spray catheter. When viewed under a specialized fluorescence endoscope, the peptide allows clinicians to visualize dysplastic or malignant tissue that may be inconspicuous under standard white-light imaging, thereby facilitating targeted biopsies and improving the detection of early-stage lesions.
